Carlsbad, CA, USA (location within United States is flexible for the right candidate)
How will you make an impact?
By identifying, evaluating and executing opportunities to out-license Company's products, capabilities and intellectual property, with a focus on the Therapeutic Market. You will lead the entire business development process and champion cross-functional teams to bring deals to closure.
What will you do?
Develop, pressure test (with key stakeholders) and deploy a multi-year out-licensing strategy for core IP portfolios targeting genome editing, therapeutic RNA delivery and RNAi markets that maximizes value and profitability to the company
Generate demand, identify, progress, and close new business with gene, cell, and immune-therapy product development and commercialization partners and other commercial purposes (e.g., vaccine development, OEM/re-sale, commercial services)
Lead negotiations, resulting in multi-year supply and license agreements through guiding cross-functional teams within the company to develop and close license/supply partnerships, including, but not limited to legal, manufacturing, marketing and R&D
Independently draft terms, deal sheets and negotiation strategy
Apply broad business development knowledge to keep abreast of industry trends, market trends, emerging technologies and communicate impact on portfolio
Accurately forecast revenues on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
How will you get here?
Education
Requires a bachelor's degree in any life science, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced degree and/or MBA preferred.
Experience
8+ years of relevant business development experience, including identification and validation of strategic out-licensing and product supply opportunities in the life sciences and/or therapeutics field required.
Experience in developing and advancing new market opportunities preferred.
Proven track record of relevant completed business development transactions required (please submit a deal sheet with application)
Demonstrated proficiency for revenue generation required
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and effectively interface with all levels inside and outside the company to drive growth required
Proven relationship building skills required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of intellectual property, patents, contract law and deal valuation
Advanced knowledge of existing and emerging cell and nucleic acid markets, and familiarity with Thermo Fisher Scientific's life sciences products
Excellent communication skills, including writing, articulating, listening, and questioning skills required
Global mindset and strategic agility
Familiarity with gene editing, nucleic acid delivery and/or RNAi technologies (e.g., TALENs, Lipid Nanoparticles and RNAi design) a plus
Frequent travel required (up to 30%)
