University of Utah Health Financial Planning Analyst in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

This position is responsible for evaluating new business opportunities presented to our Network Development team and making recommendations based on operational and financial data. The incumbent identifies, analyzes, and monitors issues that affect profitability, growth, and productivity. As a member of the Network Development team, this position may also be responsible for recommending financial and non-financial strategic alternatives and developing and maintaining operational plans. The incumbent will also be responsible for creating and monitoring contracts for business opportunities with external entities in coordination with our internal legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides insight and feedback to ensure our team is focused on what is most important, and finds creative solutions to problems.

  • Duties may include data loads from source systems, data validation and tie out, report design and build, and template augmentation.

  • Provides financial support on pro-forma analysis, as needed, to help inform the financial impact of decisions. This could be for the purchase of a piece of equipment, the renovation of existing space, the roll-out of a new service, etc.

  • Works with stakeholders to understand variances between budget and actual and helps to create action plans and remediation, as needed.

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • May perform other duties, as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to communicate complex budget and financial transactions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel, database systems, VBA, SQL, etc.

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with firm attention to detail and skill in synthesizing information in a concise manner.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in office software products.

  • Strong database and spreadsheet skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Flexible, action-oriented team player.

  • Ability to be self-motivated and engaged in the work.

  • Ability to communicate written and verbally.

  • Ability to effectively work with various populations from executives, senior leaders, management, and staff.

  • Ability to understand complex financial transactions and explain the impact of such transactions.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or equivalency.

  • Two years of experience in the field, or in a related area.

  • Previous experience in a corporate budget/planning function is helpful as well as previous experience in the healthcare industry, preferably in an academic health center.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience with healthcare analytics

  • Creativity in modeling data and creating reports

  • Ability to present complex concepts in a simplified manner

  • Experience with contracts and basic legalese
